Fire service bleep test level
Most UK fire and rescue services that use a shuttle run set the standard at 20m level 8.8. Some use the Chester treadmill test instead.
The common standard is 8.8 on the 20m test, eight shuttles into level 8.
That's a solid level of aerobic fitness, well above the police 5.4.
See where 8.8 sits on the full 20m chart: it's roughly 1,500 metres in around nine minutes.
Not every service uses the bleep test, some assess with the Chester treadmill walk test or a job-related circuit. Check your service's recruitment pages before you train.
